The full title of this talk is Advertising and the Perfect Storm: Global Warming, Peak Oil and Consumer Debt and explains the way in which producing products for people to buy is no longer the key function of our society, but marketing those goods is.

Our economies are no longer geared towards making as many new and better products as it can, but rather to marketing the millions of products that exist. If you live in the city, or even just in the developed world, this concept affects everything you do from the day you are born until the day you die.

Advertising is the most powerful and sustained system of propaganda in human history and its cumulative cultural effects, unless quickly checked, will be responsible for destroying the world as we know it.
