Innovating to Zero
Bill Gates unveils his vision for the world’s energy future, describing the need for “miracles” to avoid planetary catastrophe and explaining why he’s backing a dramatically different type of nuclear reactor. The necessary goal? Zero carbon emissions globally by 2050.
Energy and climate are extremely important to the poorest 2 billion people on Earth. In fact more important than to anyone else on the planet. The climate getting worse means that their crops wont grow. There’ll be too much rain, not enough rain, things will change in ways that their fragile environment simply can’t support.
And that leads to starvation, uncertainty, unrest, so the climate changes will be terrible for them. Also the price of energy is very important to them. In fact if you could pick just one thing to lower the price and reduce poverty, by far you would pick energy.
