Intelligent Design: Creationism

Creationism is no longer the simple notion it once was taken to be. Its new advocates have become more sophisticated in how they present their views, speaking of “intelligent design” rather than “creation science” and aiming their arguments against the naturalistic philosophical method that underlies science, proposing to replace it with a “theistic science.”

The creationism controversy is not just about the status of Darwinian evolution – it is a clash of religious and philosophical worldviews, for a common underlying fear among Creationists is that evolution undermines both the basis of morality as they understand it and the possibility of purpose in life.

Robert T. Pennock, the scientist, philosopher and author of Tower of Babel: The Evidence Against the New Creationism speaks on the controversial movement to include intelligent design creationism in the curricula of public schools.

If you think that a marketing campaign (ID) requires either a debate or defense, I suggest you visit the Discovery Institute’s website. They will give you plenty of glib statements but no real science (they actually have zero to offer)…which is why real scientists no longer waste their time. Or search for the “Wedge Document” If you want them to explain their real motivations.
I was puzzled as to why so much money would be put into the creation/ID effort. Then I realized the simple explanation is the most accurate: However much money goes into this effort, many times that amount goes right back into the pockets of the proponents.
So, why are some religious leaders worried that science is eroding their ‘faith base’? Because the money is walking away. Nothing more, nothing less.
God(s; goddess/es) can take care himself (herself, itself), but religions need your money.

When trying to solve problems, it sure would be nice to insert “and then a miracle happened”. That would certainly make life much easier to deal with.

What’s there to say about creationism? The so-called facts are known by anyone interested in the subject so the only reason to expose us to this pseudo science is to laugh at it – again.
It’s like Nazism, in my mind, we know what they believe, they are wrong, move on. There’s no doubt lots of ID videos somewhere.

Please include a lecture by an actual Intelligent Design proponent. I’m an atheist, but I think it’s a failure of skepticism to only look at the debunkers – there’s much that can be ‘reinterpreted’ or omitted altogether in the initiator’s argument. Otherwise, it’s just another one-sided piece of propoganda – not a real debate.
