Michael Persinger details his theories on the connection between magnetic fields and the brain, in particular how this relationship could facilitate telepathy and remote viewing.

He notes particular experiments and individuals (Ingo Swann, Sean Harribance) that seem to give evidence supporting his theories, and makes some fairly extraordinary claims.

Persinger also talks about technological advances being made in his lab that will help more people be able to perceive telepathic information.

Amazing! Especially right at the end. Thanks for this. I’ve had that philosophical question in my mind for a few years now, “What would the world be like if we all had telepathy?” I think the next question is “How do we react to the information we receive? Can we really handle the truth?”

This is not good science! sorry.
I like fringe sciences, statistically one of them will rock the world – but rarely. If this is his best case for his discovery, then this science is not one of them. It may fit in his brain, but the evidence he presents are weak and are spiced up with his worldview, some anecdotes and a few surprising links to quantum physics. A cognitive neuroscience researcher should know that this is not good enough.
I liked the idea though, “what would happen if we could all ‘read’ each other”

Not too far in the future we will all have the ability to control things with our minds and communicate without talking. however this will be because of emerging technology rather then any naturalistic mechanic, does that still count?

what would happen if we could all ‘read’ each other?
Humans might suffer less because there would be no deceit, no opportunity for distrust because we would all perceive the rules of the game instantly.
I think the human race would be far more healthy if we were all struck dumb and needed to feel others intention. Language is the father of deceit. Of course without language, there would still be some who practiced shielding themselves but it would be much harder to do than it is in present day.

I doubt that this guy would want ANYONE at ANYTIME to know EVERYTHING that he was thinking.
We ALL have thoughts that we do NOT act apon… so does that mean that if you THINK something bad (but do not act apon it) make you a bad person? NO. When you think of say slapping someone because they make you angry, but your brain keeps you from just impulsively slapping that person.
But, if anyone could read your thoughts, you would loss ALL sanctuary and individualism. What is important is to not ACT on your ANIMAL impulsive thoughts… in fact it is better to think of ALL possible ideas ( yes even the BAD thoughts ) is GOOD. How could we know what was good without thinking about what is BAD?
Sometimes your mind and thoughts are all you have.
This guy WANTS you to become a BORG.
I do think we need to unite and help each other and expose Secret Societies. But, to JUDGE ALL thoughts and lose your PRIVACY is scary.

It is refreshing to hear a scientist explore the power of the mind beyond the palpable capacity of the body.
He says:” You got to start somewhere and then you perfect the technology.”
It is my impression that we are all connected, the goal is to tweak the connection until it communicates.

Psychic powers/meditacion/ prayer/ tarot/hand etc readings,… all activities/tools that depend on this connection. Its been there for ever. Certain civilizations have commonly been able to access this worldwide connecting sytem (to call it something). Tribes isolated and surrounded by nature, less poluted in everyway, have a greater practice and access to this. And no fear of it, or/and have not used it for the profit of the prviledged. City people have lost the connection and become numb and sceptic (in general). Science is finally undercovering something that has always been there and we just could not see (like when the world was thought to be flat). So interesting to see that finally science is PROVING, using scientific methods, that it is so. NO SECRETS, does not mean we will loose our indiviuality, it means priviledged groups will no longer be able to control and manipulate the mases as easily as they have until now.

Not good enough for what, and what defines “good science”?
Here we have published experimental evidence, so that certainly falls in to the category of science, regardless of how far fetched.

Ah, good question. Good science you follow the scientific rules (only to avoid biased, statistical and other rogue input to create bad data). In this talk he should present his findings, show how he has tried his best to follow these rules and make a conclusion based on that. Talking about quantum laws is folly, if you cant string the two theories together with science.
Maybe he is a genious and have done everything scientifically correct, but i can’t see that from this talk.
So to correct myself: THIS talk/presentation doesn’t present itself as good science. I have not verified any result he refers to.
regarding ‘..for what’: The better the science, the better chance of making others look into the area. I actually hope he succeedes.

this guy is a professor? he spent too much time around magnets and fried his brain. any mathematician could blow his ideas out of the water. simply put, there is way too much interference for a signal to be passed in the way he states, even in the most ideal possible circumstances.
